Good afternoon, and welcome. I’m Susan Lacy, creator and executive producer of AMERICAN MASTERS.

It’s wonderful to be back at press tour. But it’s with a heavy heart that I join you here today – a day I’d hoped to share with Atlantic Records founding chairman Ahmet Ertegun. I know he was looking forward to being with so many of his old friends on stage and doing what he loved best – talking music. Read the rest…

Good evening, and welcome to a truly momentous occasion. By virtue of your honorable profession, all of you here tonight will be the very first to preview NO DIRECTION HOME: BOB DYLAN, a Martin Scorsese picture.

This has been a remarkable collaboration between many diverse partners bound by a singular devotion to the Bob Dylan story – Spitfire Pictures, Grey Water Park Productions, Sikelia Productions, Vulcan Productions, NHK and, of course, our broadcasting partner, the BBC. NO DIRECTION HOME will make its U.S. broadcast premiere September 26 on PBS – the same night part one debuts in the UK, on the BBC’s Arena series. Talk about a world-class event! Read the rest…

Thursday, Feb. 17

Pat leads with a casual summation of her background and then goes into…

I’ve also been asked to talk about the day-to-day mechanics of my job. Mechanic might be a good word to describe some of what I do – everything from fixing deals with affiliates to repairing relationships with agents and stars.

By definition, I’m responsible for all programming and business areas of the network. This includes television network sales, affiliate relations, marketing, broadcast operations and engineering, Daytime, Entertainment and News. I also coordinate with ABC Sports and Children’s Programming.

What’s all that mean? It means my desk is messy, my door is almost always open and my phone rings practically non-stop. It means that by the end of the day, my hair is pulled back on top of my head, my kids and husband have called at least twice, and I’m still wading through my daily 200 or so emails in the hopes of getting home in time for dinner. Script Text, Video Presentation, CASA Event, 2001

The Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner

On the Forstmann Family:
As soon as I heard about CASA honoring the Forstmann family, I told Joe Califono he could count on me. I knew this was one event I wanted to be a part of.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard Ted Forstmann get fired up about his favorite issue: education reform. That’s because he strongly believes it’s one of the best ways to fight the war on drugs. It really riles Ted to see kids born to misfortune and poverty destined to a dead-end education. So he did something about it – he funneled millions in scholarships to help poor kids attend private schools. Read the rest…

IRTS Luncheon
May 4, 2000

I thought you might be interested in a story that I think says a lot about the popularity of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” You might have heard that ABC was missing in action for a few hours this week. For Michael Davies, this was extremely bad timing. For months, he had been planning a blockbuster series of four Millionaire shows that had celebrities as contestants. People like Rosie O’Donnell and Drew Carey, if you get the picture.

So when the signal went black in seven ABC cities, including the largest market of all, New York, Michael was pretty upset. But let me tell you what happened, even when 8 million viewers couldn’t see us. In markets that were NOT affected by the blackout, the show was up – over the prior Monday it ran – by 24 percent. In the seven cities that were DARK – viewing was up even more: by 26 percent! Read the rest…

Thank you, Camryn. In your honor, I feel like I should wave this award in the air and shout “This is for all the soccer moms from Queens!”

I was really delighted to have Camryn Manheim introduce me because I love seeing her face on TV. Don’t you? There’s no question – TV still showcases far too many white men and super models. But the TV landscape is finally diversifying. We’re certainly not there yet. But we’re working on it. Read the rest…
