Script, National Children First PSA Campaign, 2000
September 2, 2009 8:20 pm Speeches - scripts - annual reportsIDEA NO. 7: Environment
Camera opens on Drew Carey who says:
This summer, I saw dolphins swimming off the coast of New Jersey. Dolphins! In New Jersey! Almost seems like an oxymoron doesn’t it?
Those dolphins came back because of the tremendous efforts made to clean up our oceans. Environmentalism works. Who knows? Maybe next year we’ll see sharks swimming in LA! Oh yeah, we’ve already got those…
IDEA NO. 6: Tolerance
Camera opens to Jenna Elfman who says:
Want to try something totally radical? I mean, really, really daring? You know that geeky guy in your class that you never ever talk to?
Try talking to him. Who knows? He might grow up to be the next Bill Gates. The next Leo. The next Eddie Vedder.
Wouldn’t it be great if, years from now, you could say “See that famous guy? We were friends” instead of “I used to trip him in the cafeteria and then laugh till milk came out my nose?”
IDEA NO. 1: Communication
Camera opens on ABC talent standing, serious look on his face, head cocked to the side, as if he’s listening. Three seconds of silence pass.
Talent says:
Know what I’m doing? I’m listening. Next time your kids need your attention, try it, try listening. Can’t hurt. Just might work.
IDEA NO. 7: Expression
Camera opens on ABC talent who says:
When I was 13, I was in my room playing some music, full blast of course, when my dad yelled up the stairs really loud “What in the world are you playing?” And I yelled back, fully expecting him to tell me to turn it down or turn it off, “Neil Young.” Then he yelled, “I like it.”
I was shocked. My dad liked Neil Young? Who would have guessed? It opened up a whole ‘nother side of him. So next time your kids are playing their music, try listening to it. Who knows? You just might like it. And, telling them that will really blow their mind.
IDEA NO. 2: Communication
Camera opens on ABC talent. She says:
Cows moo. Dogs bark. Geese honk.
People talk. We call it communicating, and you know what? It works.
So next time your kids want to talk to you, take five minutes from your busy life and do just that. Talk. Who knows? You just might discover a whole new animal living in your house.
IDEA NO. 3: Communication
Camera opens on ABC talent. As he speaks, a crawler runs across the bottom of the screen with an English translation.
Mi amore
(translation: I love you)
Talkes-vous
(translation: Let’s talk)
Qui es vous day?
(translation: How did your day go?)
Talent says:
No matter what language you use, it all comes down to the same thing: communicating. Try it today with your loved ones.
IDEA NO. 4: Teen pregnancy
Camera opens on ABC talent blowing up a balloon and then holding onto it at its most blown.
Talent says:
See this? This is what happens to your body when you get pregnant. Is this how you want to pass your teen years? Think about it.
IDEA NO. 5: Anti-smoking
Camera opens on ABC talent, who says:
Ever try licking the bottom of a used ash tray? Pretty gross idea, huh? Well, guess what? That’s exactly what you taste like if you smoke. Think about that next time you take a drag and then want to smooch.
Talent wrinkles nose and says,
Yeeach!!
